My tail goes out of control for about 2 seconds and then catch again. Sometimes it will rotate the bird about 1/4 turn.

This behaviour is the result of the gyro being unable to control the tail. The most probable causes are:

  • Tail hub bearings locking up when under load.
  • Stiff linkages occasionally locking up.
  • Faulty servo that has a dead zone and freezes there. If your radio has a servo test mode connect the servo direct to the receiver and run the test sweep a few times which may reveal the problem. This test is possible with 1520uSec servos only.
  • Internally broken servo or gyro cable or bad connection between the two. Wiggle and slightly flex the cables near the connectors which may reveal such faults.
